Hickory Golf is returning to Northern California

Or…..maybe it never left. We hope you are well and have weathered the recent pandemic in good shape. It’s been a challenging time on many fronts. As life forces us to focus on the necessary, our nice-to-haves sometimes migrate to the back burner. We’re happy to announce that we’re slowly emerging from our COVID hibernation and are eager to reinvigorate hickory golf on the West Coast. This new website is a work in progress, but will serve as a hub for local information and details regarding events and outings. We hope you’ll drop in occasionally and join us for a round. Two new events have been added for June, and we hope to sponsor a few others as summer progresses. Your comments and suggestions are welcome, please use the Contact form to let us know what you would like to see, or just let us know you’re out there and looking for some hickory playing companions.

2022 Northern California Hickory Challenge

The NCHG visits the Monterey Bay this June for our first annual Northern California Hickory Challenge

Being played this year at the 1928 Pajaro Valley Golf Course in Royal Oaks, California off the coast of Monterey Bay. We’re up for the Challenge, are you?

Join us on Sunday June 26th with Tee Times beginning at 11am. Currently we have a slim field because of other summer commitments and our late posting announcement. We might make this gathering less formal so anybody who wants to try out hickory for the first time, this might be a good outing to give it a go. Potentially we’ll just award closest to the pin and low gross and net scores.

Carmona’s BBQ after the round for purchase

Three Tee boxes, Open(white), Senior(gold) and Womens(red)

$50 dollars for golf/prizes, $20 for cart rental

Sign up below or use the Events Page (fees paid on event day)

Apple City and PG fun day Recap

Apple City Hickory tournament at Spring Hills golf course

Well we did it !! The Apple City hickory tournament was a rousing success !! We had a total of 17 Players of which many were first time players in the Apple City. There were some pretty strong sticks and a few first timers with varying results. It was a beautiful day with the fog sweeping in and out. We couldn’t ask for more. Congratulations to the winners: 3rd place net , Charles McCullom (net 74) …. 2nd place Net, Steve Henneuse (net 69)…. 1st place net, Michael Scott (net 68)….. 1st place gross, Skip Perry (gross 76)….. closest to the pin, Skip Perry . The Food and Drink were great after the round, many thanks to Amy , Jacque and Bobby and all the staff at Spring Hills for hosting us with the mostest. Thank you all for attending and looking forward to seeing you on the links soon. Remember to follow our website for upcoming events!! The Fun Day at Pacific grove was attended by 8 die hard golfers and it was blowing a gale on the back nine. Jim Norris and Michael Scott had to drop out after nine, Jim because he had to work and Michael because of a grape allergy suffered the night before. A good time was had by the group who finished.

Fun Day at Pacific Grove, June 7 2021

Right on the heels of our Spring Hills event we’ll be holding a Fun Day at Pacific Grove. There will no tournament format, simply the opportunity for players already in the area for the Apple City Hickory to get another play day in.

Pacific Grove is a delightful hickory course with amazing back nine views.

While there is no official competition, it would be very much in the spirit of Old Tom Morris to partake in a friendly wager within your foursome. This is also an ideal opportunity to play foursomes or four-ball, and incorporate match play with stymies for something new.
